Naqqis crawled out of her den, the sun's early-morning shine sinking into her fur. Her family was sleeping behind her, snoring as loud as thunder. She let out a huge yawn. Naqqis let her imagination run wild. She pretended to be an adult polar bear, one who could hunt and fight. She jumped onto the snow, her claws sinking into her invisible opponent. She opened her mouth and bit into it, and she almost felt like her teeth were digging into real flesh and not just freezing snow. Naqqis rolled around in the snow, covering her cream-colored pelt. Spotting a small drift, she hobbled off to it and used her tiny claws to make a small den. Laughing, she curled up inside and fell asleep, tired from her little trek around camp.

Lomasi layed in her den, her huge paws twitching as she slept. Her head shook a little as, in her mind, flat-faces began to come with there monsters. Making her whole home reek with there stench. Everything being destroyed. Den by den, the flat-faces invaded. Creating there thunder paths till there was no more snow, ice, or bears. They had turned it into one of there places with there dens, monsters, and nothing would be left for the bears that lived here right know. Lomasi couldn't even do anything about it. She was helpless. That was her worst nightmare. Seeing all this happen, and being so helpless and can't do anything to save them. She couldn't stand it. All she wanted to do, was to make sure everyone on the island was safe, from anything the flat-faces might bring.
Lomasi sat up in her den with a jolt. Her heart was beating fairly quickly. Lomasi's large white head had almost hit the top of the den. With a sigh, Lomasi relaxed a bit, telling herself that her dream would never happen, that everyone was safe, and that the flat-faces would never come here. What would they want with the island anyway? It was just snow, and ice to the flat-faces. To the bears, it was home. Lomasi wasn't going to let that happen, she wouldn't let anyone take it away from then, or from her. Home is home, and this was home.
Lomasi finally stood up and padded out of her den that she had made by dugging out a snow drift. Her powerful claws dug into the snow as she padded over the ice. The sun was not yet very high over the snow as Lomasi stopped in her tracks. She was the leader of all these white bears that lived here. Here on Star Island. Lomasi was in charge of all of them. She was to keep order around here. She wouldnt let anything happen to any of them that looked up to her. Lomasi continued to pad through the snow, though stopped to watch a small cub playing in the snow. A smile crossed Lomasi's face. She couldn't let anything happen to her ether.

Naqqis spun around as she felt eyes staring into her fur. She had heard someone approach, the crunch, crunch, crunch in the snow, and saw Lomasi, her leader. Naqqis dipped her head. "Good morning, Lomasi," she said happily. "Beautiful day, isn't it? I was just pretending how to be a real bear. Wanna watch me?" Without waiting for a response, she lept onto Lomasi's back with her claws sheathed. "Raaaaaaaaa! You stole my seal! Now I must attack you!" Naqqis cried. Growling, she thrashed about on Lomasi's back and hissed in her ear.

Lomasi smiled at the small cub as she emurged from her den once more. No, she couldnt let anythnig happen to her. Just look, shes so inocent and small. It would be just devastating for anythnig tragice to happen to her. No, that wont happen, Lomasi wouldnt even let herself think for a moment that it even would happen. No, there would be no flat-faces that where going to come. It was all only a terruble dream, a nightmare, that was what it was. Nothing else but that, she couldnt even let herself think otherwise.
Loasi smiled brightly as the small cub continued on with her game. So much joy and spirit in some one so young. Lomasi laughed as the cub launched herelf onto Lomasi's shoulders. "And a terifieing real bear you are," Lomasi teCensoreded her in a friendly manner. Everythngi was going to be just fine, she kept tellngi herself over and over. Making herself get it into her head that it was only a dream, nothig more, but hopefully something less.

Naqqis laughed as Lomasi played along with her. She was only a cub, but even she knew of the dangers of no-claws. She had heard of them and their firebeasts and their deathsticks. And how they were taking more and more of the wild. She could sense the worry in the pelts of the bears that came home every day with smaller and smaller seals. When I learn how to hunt, I'm going to catch all of the food I can, to help all of the bears on Star Island. But something was telling Naqqis that it wasn't as simple as that. She shook her head, as if to clear the worry and bad thoughts away. "Give me back my seal!" She yowled, thrashing about once more on Lomasi's back.
