Resa walked along the edge of the mountains, the forest growing around her. She felt so small compared to the towering red oaks and huge maples. She remembered her mother, the little time she'd had with her. She was her mother's last cub. Her mother had had many litters before her, and she had been too old to to and weak to stay with Resa for very long. Just thinking about her made tears come to Resa's eyes. No. That was the past. This is now. I have to go to Great Bear Lake and meet the other black bears, just like mother said. Resa sighed. She had such a long way to go. Her belly rumbled. Looking around just to make sure no one had heard, she saw a large blueberry bush. Mmmm.....blueberries. Padding off to it, she settled down and began eating her meal.
